VACCINATIONS

DOG VACCINES

There are core vaccines that are recommended for every dog. These vaccines protect against distemper, parvo virus, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza and rabies. These vaccinations are given to adult dogs every 1 or 3 years, depending on the vaccine.

We vaccinate puppies at 6 weeks of age and then every 3 weeks until they are around 16 weeks of age. Vaccinating every 3 weeks protects them by allowing the production of their own antibodies against these diseases. At 16 weeks of age, we also give a rabies vaccination, and issue you a city or county license.

Non-core vaccines protect against Bordetella, canine flu, Lyme disease, corona virus, and leptospirosis. These vaccinations are given if you are boarding your dog at a kennel, going to some dog parks, day cares, or training classes, or if it seems like your particular dog needs to be protected against these other agents. These vaccines are given on a yearly basis.

CAT VACCINES
There are core vaccines that are recommended for every cat. Core vaccines protect against feline distemper (panleukopaenia), rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and rabies. These vaccines are given to adult cats every 1 or 3 years, depending on the vaccine.

We vaccinate kittens at 6 weeks of age and then every 3 weeks until they are around 16 weeks of age. Vaccinating every 3 weeks protects them by allowing the production of their own antibodies against these diseases. At 16 weeks of age, we also give a rabies vaccination and issue you a city or county license.

The non-core vaccines protect against feline leukemia (FeLV). We recommend these only if your cat is going to come into direct contact with other cats. To protect against FeLV, we need to give your cat 2 injections initially, separated by 3 to 4 weeks, and then a yearly booster.
